A Wedding Sheet Cake?

Our Penguin Sheet Wedding Cake
The Story Behind The Penguin Wedding Sheet Cake
I chose to share this cake with the world even though it is NOT my best work! In fact it's pretty bad, at least for a would be professional cake decorator.
But it did have a lot of romance and meaning behind it.
We fell in love fast and hard, in fact we were engaged within 2 months of meeting at a friends wedding, and married within 10 months.
He lived on the west coast, I lived on the east.
We traveled back and forth to see each other every couple of months and that was the extent of our dating, besides getting to know each other over the phone.
On one of Scott's visits to the east, we stayed in a quant little inn in Kent CT. It was there that we found our first penguin.
The penguin became our sign of love for each other from that day forward. (I know it's silly!)
Our wedding was low budget. Having one wedding cake under my belt at this point I decided to make my own.
The wedding was very small with only very close family and friends. Due to the fact that I was crunched for time and not in my familiar kitchen, I decided not to try to get too fancy with it. Hence the sheet cake.
Oh yes and we lived happily ever after. Our 25th anniversary is coming up in May of 2010.
And now you know the story behind the penguin wedding sheet cake. How I did it!
The cake was delicious, because it was my
best carrot cake recipe that I still use to this day.
It was filled with my
carrot cake icing recipe frosted with my favorite
wedding cake frosting a.k.a. buttercream, made with real butter.
I used the
Wilton cake decorating instructions and the Wilton bowling pin pans to form the penguins.
I have a page on my site called
cheap wedding cakes, where you can get more money saving ideas and a tutorial page on how to
make your own wedding cake. Not a sheet cake, but a real three tiered simple wedding cake.
Happy cake decorating!!! I hope to see some of your creations soon.
