Best Cake To Use When Covering With Fondant

Question
I am new to decorating cakes, and I would like to know what the best cake to use with fondant would be.

Answer
The best cake to use when covering with fondant is a cake that is firm. My first choice is my best carrot cake recipe, with buter cream or cream cheese filling, but I have also used my chocolate cake recipe and white wedding cake recipe many times over with great success. The trick is to fill your cake with something that will stay firm enough, such as Ganache or butter cream. Also keep your cakes well chilled right up until you start the process of finishing them with buttercream and fondant. Once you put the fondant on you should not refrigerate the cake. But do keep it in a cool dry place.

Hope this helps :)
