Diamonds Are A Girls Best Friend

by Sarah Harvey

I made this cake for a friend of mine 2 months ago, she used diamond paperweights as center pieces so, I wanted to incorporate that into her cake.

How I did it

It is a stacked 3 tier white cake with strawberry filling, and butter cream icing with a pearl dusting. The rhinestone borders are individual rhinestone chains that I glued on to a ribbon and attached them with a flower pin. The crystal cake topper whas ordered online.

I was given a budget, so I used boxed cake mix, and added a box of vanilla pudding for every 3 boxes of mix. For the strawberry gel center, I used Smuckers strawberry jam, which has a thick consistency but is very cheap.

Tip

Since the cake is butter cream, dusting the pearl on with a fondant duster, would have dented it, so I used a feather. It worked well, without denting the icing. I hope that my ideas help you :)

Just another idea for the dust that you placed on the cake with a feather. You can also take the luster dust or pearl dust and put it on a soft small artists paintbrush and gently flick the luster dust on with your fingers or blow lightly on the brush and let the dust fall onto the cake. Just make sure you do not have a lot of dust on the brush at once or you might get a few thicker spots of the luster dust. Just an idea you might be able to use. Your cake is beautiful.
