Lego Star Wars Cake

Hello ladies & gentlemen. This entry comes to you from someone, me who loves cake decorating & as much as I enjoy decorating them (did you notice I didn't said baking or constructing them...lol)can't seem to get the handle on it, but I'm not hanging up my aprons or my cake decorating tools anytime soon...in fact I feel like going out shopping for some more!!

This little cake, well guess it wasn't that little being that it was baked in a 10inch shinny metal pan from Wilton. The cake was a two~layer, could have easily made it into a 4~layer cake as the pan was 3"deep & it came out of the oven pretty high.

After torting & filling it, I knew right away that a 4~layer cake would've been better. I personally don't like too much cake with not enough filling in between the layers. For the Icing, frosting I decided to go with a kid friendly buttercream as my nephew doesn't appreciate any of the Italian or Swiss meringue butter creams that I LUV!!..LOL

How am I going to decorate this cake? It's a great design or shall I say theme. Gotta use a picture that is not too crazy with elements on it & cool colors. I want the colors to "POP"...yikes here I go again it's easy for me to come up with what I want on the cake mentally but when its time to execute all those neat procedures, auggggh that's not the word I want to use...sounds like surgery is being done, Like I was saying to my self before...don't make it complicated think too MUCH!!

I luv working with bright colors this cake was my chance to take advantage to use any medium I wanted & techniques to try out & to experiment with...In my mind & all the daydreaming while working on the cake the end result would be a COOL CAKE for this little boy who's eyes lite~up at the word of lego star wars. Not to mention lego Indiana & I think there's one more but for now lets leave it at that.

For the design of the cake I went with a silver buttercream all over, the picture was done with piping gel. I trace the picture first with black icing, then went back and filled in the other colors with piping gel. Of course it happened, I got carried away with the piping gel, but none~the less my little nephew was smitten with his Leggo Star Wars Cake for his 6th Birthday...Mhwaa have a great Day!!

Yani Thanks for entering another one of your awesome cakes and entertaining stories. :-) Hope you get lots of comments and ratings! Good Luck.

Silver Buttercream
by: Yani

To anonymous hello....to make the silver butter cream, just added a bit of black color gel to the white butter cream and whala!!! you get a nice silver, metal color it all depends on how much gel color you add to the butter cream. Go easy, bit by bit when adding the color.*
