Sugar Cookie Recipe

This is a very basic and easy dough to make. I like it because the cookies are nice and firm for decorating. They are not very sweet, but once the icing goes on they are perfect.

I use this recipe for the Heart Shaped cookies from Cookie Swap: Creative Treats to Share Throughout the Year

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

In a large bowl, combine 1 cup sugar, butter, milk, vanilla and egg;blend well. Stir in flour baking soda and salt;mix well. Cover with plastic wrap;refrigerate 1 hour for easier handling.

Heat oven to 400 F. On a lightly floured surface, roll out 1/3 of the dough at a time to 1/8 inch thickness. Keep remaining dough refrigerated. Cut with floured cookie cutters.
