I made the shortbread cookie recipe in "Cookie Swap". Soooo delicious! Here is the video of my attempt at the Easter Bonnet Shortbread Cookies. These make beautiful wedding or bridal shower cookie favors, especially if you have a hat theme or a vintage party.
They look intimidating but Julia's directions are very clear and easy to follow. I learned some new cake decorating techniques while making these cookies!
I did take the easy way out by not adding the fondant ribbon. I ran out of time, but they still look great!
Here is how you can make your own wedding cookie favors stress free.
Make the cookies ahead and freeze. Wrap them well and a couple of days before the event decorate and package. You can get really awesome ideas with a book that I recently bought called Cookie Swap My review of this book is below.
My review of "Cookie Swap" by Julia M. Usher
I ordered Cookie Swap by Julia M. Usher last week, and read it while exercising on the treadmill this morning. So taken by the gorgeous photos and the scrumptious ideas that I forgot to stop exercising. That's a really good thing, because I will need to be doing more cardio after I start baking these amazing cookies.
I highly recommend this book if you are looking for ideas for any occasion.
This being a wedding cake website I wanted to see Julia's ideas for wedding favors and bridal showers. I was not disappointed. I kept finding myself using the WOW! word and of course AWESOME!
She breaks everything down step by step and rates the difficulty level as well as gives you alternatives, so even a beginner can use this book.
If you are planning a themed wedding shower or are making your own wedding cookie favors than this is the book for you. You will surely find inspiration on these pages.
I am going to start right away for Easter this year with the Shortbread Easter Bonnets Cookies. (which by the way would make a nice addition to a hat themed bridal shower) Also included in her book is a unique wedding cake topper idea made from cookies. Love it!
Because Julia also makes amazing wedding cakes she is highly skilled in cake decorating techniques and you can learn much from her. This book would make a beautiful gift for your friends and family who enjoy baking or decorating cakes.
