What is Sitesell?
by Leila
(Connecticut)

Hi Lorelei!! Just finished watching the little promo video you posted through Sitesell.
It is fantastic and honestly I am in AWE of your creative cakes and website in general! I wanted to know two things...first what is SiteSell? I visited their site but don't quite understand it so I thought I would ask you what they are and how they work and do you feel it is worth it? I'm always looking for new ways to build our music business and websites.
I have original artwork, tiles, home decor and accessories I sell on my art pages through Zazzle and Cafepress. I also have several music products. I spend most of my day looking for passive income streams and website marketing, maintenance is already part of my day to day...SO that I can free up more time for my passions.
Also Bobbi and I have a songwrting DVD instructional that we sell through Amazon, and I have also begun writing vocalist tips, songwriting advice etc...so it seems like it's very very similar thing to what you're doing which is why I was intrigued!
My question is, how does Sitesell differ from Squidoo? have you heard of Squidoo? You don't pay a fee and it is a content building site as well where you earn money through affilates and click through on your "content pages" you write about topics you love. But I think sitesell may be doing things that Squidoo doesn't do, somehow this seems different. Do they help you get traffic?
I will spend more time on the Sitesell site but where do I begin to look for answers on how you get started and how it works? Is there an FAQ page?
Thanks so much Lorelei! It is truly amazing what you're accomplishing and your page looks beautiful...
xoxo Leila
ANSWER to What is SiteSell Hi Leila,
First of all I want to say thank you for such wonderful comments about my SBI website. I started wedding-cakes-for-you.com in July of 2009 and it has grown to over 1300 pages with 3,000 daily visitors. This website has begun to make a substantial passive income for me.
Using Sitesell as a guide you will not only build a website, you will build a business. You don't need to have a product to make money online. You just need to have enough passion about something that people are searching for and be willing to help others.
You can see how I do this here on my questions page and cake decorating contest pages. This is all done using Content 2.0 which comes with the SiteSell package. It has helped to grow this site to where it is today.
In your case you already have products to sell and in fact are already doing so. My suggestion would be to build an SBI website based on your knowledge of songwriting and entertainment to drive traffic to your product sites, and to make passive income using Adsense or another one of the many pay per click opportunities out there. You have already begun writing so you have a head start on content.
The best place to start finding out about Sitesell is by going to the SiteSell homepage. You can get an overview and see links to take you to a variety of other pages explaining what SBI is.
SBI has all the tools for building a successful online business and is most definitely worth the $299.00 a year. In fact that is cheap for all that you learn and earn in the long run.
Once you start getting substantial traffic (and you will with SiteSell) you start to monetize your pages in various ways. I use Google Adsense and affiliates related to my niche, and am working on a series of ebooks to sell. I am looking forward to the day VERY soon when I can say goodbye to all of my various day jobs and work full time on my websites (yes I did say websites) SBI works so well I am going to start a second one... Sitesell versus Squidoo You asked about Squidoo versus SBI. This answer is from one of the friendly SBIr's in the forums who answered that question for me.
"The difference is that with SBI you own your site, you own the domain, you own the content and you own the money that it makes.
If you make a site with SBI, you pay the yearly fee, and you have full responsibility for the content and the growth. For me, SBI's yearly fee is a peace of mind guarantee. And, believe me, it's worth every penny. There are some SBIers here getting the best of both worlds. They have their main sites and then they use the free sites like Squidoo. That means they have the security of having a stable site while deriving benefits from the fun social sites. To me that's the best of both worlds.
