Chocolate separating into two layers
by: Sherwin

Trying to recreate my mother's chocolate cake and having problems. Main issue is the resultant cake separates into two layers, the chocolate at the top and some yellow gelatenous layer below. I don't use cake flour, but combinations of baking soda and/or
baking powder. Cake rising is not a problem though.
I will specify the ingredients, if that will help:

2 oz of Baker's unsweetened chocolate squares
2 cups sugar
3/8 lb butter
3 eggs
1 1/2 cup milk (I use skim)
2 cups flour (unsifted)
baking powder and/or baking soda

One problem is how well to mix the ingredients. I have used both an electric mixer and just hand
mixing. I cook it at 350 for about one hour.

Any ideas would be welcome.
Sherwin

Cakes not mixing
by: Lorelie

Not sure why your cakes are not working. The mixing should be about 2 minutes worth. I have never seen this happen. Sorry I couldn't be more of a help.

Where's the new post?
by: Sherwin Dubren

I was told there was a new post about my question of baking a chocolate cake. Checking just now, it looks like the same comments I saw weeks ago.

Hi Sherwin. I see a comment here from the 20th. I don't know the answer to your problem. So sorry!
