Passionate? You Be The Judge

I am obsessed with Cake Decorating shows. I watch Cake Boss, Cupcake Wars, Ace of Cakes, and Top Chef Just Desserts etc. One morning I woke up and decided, before I sit down and watch the next episode of Cake Boss, to go to the store and buy the supplies to make one myself.

Baking came naturally, icing seemed easy, rolling fondant was so fun, molding and cutting fondant was even more fun. I instantly fell in love with my new hobby.

I created a design for my niece’s 5th Birthday and everyone there LOVED it. I got several more people asking if I would make their event cakes. 1 year later, here I am with my own small business out of my home doing very well.

I have made cakes for Weddings, Bridal Showers, Baby Showers, Birthdays, Kids, Grooms, Anniversaries, Holiday's, Cupcakes, Pastries, Cookies, Ice Cream Cakes, Pies and MORE. I love what I do and my husband likes that I can be home and not at a bakery all the time. I have to admit I do pull an all nighter occasionally to do a last minute job but it's worth it. My husband is a good sport.

Our Elegant Wedding Cake

I even made our Wedding confection for our reception! It is the one here that I entered in the contest, the first but certainly not the last.

It took forever! Over 350 ivory rolled and hand shaped gum paste roses pressed onto the sides of the top and bottom tiers. White pleats on the middle layer and fresh orchids decorating the top.

The inside was red velvet with cream cheese frosting. I got so many compliments and a lot of business after our wedding. I was able to start my own business out of my own home. Someday I hope to have my own local bakery in Oregon City. That is another step I'll take someday.

What would I be doing now if I didn't wake up that one morning wanting to make my first cake? It proves you never know what you are capable of until you try it.

Not Your Work, Karlee NEW
by: Anonymous

What a gorgeous cake Karlee! I can only imagine how many days it took for you to make all those flowers by yourself…right??

Wrong. In reality, three other people worked on this cake and made those 350 (did you actually count them?? Because your cake makers didn’t) delicate fondant flowers for literal days and nights, and you stopped in once and made a few. As the bride, this was very kind and not expected of you, but to then turn around and claim this whole cake as your own work, and write about how much effort it took to make all the flowers yourself? Unreal. You absolutely did not make this cake, nor did you pay for the labor, and should not be benefiting from the work others put in. I don’t know how you could have got business after your wedding…because literally everyone there knew exactly who’d made the cake. The inside was styrofoam, not red velvet with cream cheese frosting.

I’m certain you do good work of your very own, because the few flowers you did make were totally usable. Maybe enter a cake you actually made, and I’m sure you’d do totally well.
