Jungle Cake

Jungle Cake

This safari cake was for a baby shower and I wanted to make sculpted animals. You can find how to make them on YouTube. They show you step by step.

I never took a class about making figures but I had a good idea on how to make them. I do make my own recipe of gum paste, which I learned where I did my internship for baking and pastry.

Very easy to make and very easy to work with.

Gumpaste Recipe:

4 egg whites
2 lbs sugar powder
12 tsp of Tylose
4 tbsp of Crisco

In mixer add all ingredients but the egg whites . While mixing pour in the egg whites little by little until it all comes together and the mixer can't move. Remove and begin to fold. I divided it into two and wrapped it tightly twice. You will find that if you wrap it well it will last long. You can also add flavor to the mix. I guarantee you will love it.

Jungle Cake Animals

I made a lion, a monkey, two giraffe heads, a zebra and a elephant. You can find the tutorials on YouTube like I did. Put your own twist on the and make them to your liking. They are fun to make and I got quite a lot of compliments.

I also made the palm trees with gumpaste and cookie straws. The flavor was a rum cake recipe and Bavarian cream filling. Plus I airbrushed the cake.

Hope you enjoy it.

From Lorelie: Thanks Marisel for an adorable addition to the website and the recipe for gumpaste!!! I found this tutorial on YouTube for the lion.
