1st wedding cake
by: Patti

Yes, this was my 1st official Wedding Cake. I did a 3 tier Anniversary cake last year for a family member, I wasn't as nervous doing it as I was this one. I had to deliver it 30 miles from my house.
For the layers, I used a Classic White Cake recipe (homemade).
The Bride & Groom were pleased with it. The Bride said... "It's so beautiful, it takes my breath away!" That just made my day!!

Thank you,
Patti

Layers
by: Patti

First of all, Thank you for your comments!
And I'm new at this too, only been doing cakes for a year now.
For each tier, I made 2- 2in layers and filled with Buttercream icing.
I hope that this helps you! I know that you will do a great job!

Icing
by: Patti

Yes , the cake is Iced in all buttercream.
The 2 layers with butter cream in between them, was around 4 inches high, ( each tier ) so that made the whole cake about 16 in. tall

Layers
by: Patti

Thank you for your comments!
Lori... Yes I did make my layers from scratch, I feel that if you are going to charge someone $3.75 and up per slice(serving) the cake should be homemade. Good Luck!! I know that you will do great! Patti

Anonymous.... Each tier was 2 - 2 inch layers with icing between them and then iced with Butter Cream icing, so each tier was 4 inches. Just make sure that you use a strong board, I used a 3/4 in. plywood. my bottom tier was a 14 in. layer so I cut my plywood board 16 in.and covered with Wilton's silver foil. Hope that this helps! Good Luck!! Patti

Cake Stackers
by: Lorelie

Hi Tina and Patti,

Tina thanks for visiting my site and
You both may want to check out these incredible new cake supports by Cake Stackers.

I am going to give them a try for my next cake which has to be driven 100 miles away. The cake is in October so I will let you know how it goes. They really look and sound like the answer to our prayers.

Just for the record. i have been using dowel rods and straws for my support structures and it worked but its such a pain cutting and measuring etc.

Good luck to you Tina! Send us a picture ok? You can upload it at the wedding cake sharing page

Dowel Rods ( Tina )
by: Patti

Hey Tina,
Yes I did put dowel rods in each layer and one in the middle down through the 3 bottom tiers.
I did put the 3 bottom tiers together at home & left the top tier to be put on at the church.
You don't put a dowel rod in the very top tier, it just sets on top. But you will need to put a little fresh icing under the top tier just to make sure that it stays in place.
Remember to take extra icing & any other extra supplies you might need for touch ups!
I put the cake ( the 3 tiers) in a box don't have to have a lid just put some loose cling wrap over the top. (Buy some of the non skid stuff that you would put under a rug)I can't think of the name of it, anyway you can buy it at your local Walmart. put it in the box before you put your cake in, it will help it form moving around. I also had my sister n law to go with me and set in the back with the cake because believe me I was nervous having to go that far. I'm sure that you will do a GREAT job, cant wait to see the cake!
Lorelie, thank you for that info. I'll check it out. Cant wait to see your cake in Oct. and I already know that you do a GREAT job!!
Tina, hope this helps. Patti

I LOVE CAKE STACKERS
by: Lorelie

Hi Tina, Patti, Lori, Yvette and Anonymous LOL

I just wanted to update you all as to how the cake Stackers went over. All I can say is "no more dowel rods and straws for me!" It truly is amazing. You have to try it if you are going to continue with cakes. It takes so much of the stress away when delivering the cake. The cakes come out level even if they are not, and they are perfectly centered.

Pan Sizes
by: Marlyn

What size pans did you use? I have my first wedding cake to do in March and the bride wants 4 tiers - square and I want the bottom layer to be 14 inches but was not sure what the other layers should be.

Hi Marlyn,

Patti (who made this beautiful square wedding cake) may also want to respond to this, but I thought it may be helpful for you to look at Patti's original questions to me about pan sizes
