Here are the 5 ingredients you need to make 2 cups of this marvelous browned butter frosting:
Ingredients
Directions
Brown the butter in a saucepan over medium/high heat. Pour the butter into a shallow pan or bowl and refrigerate until it is semi hard. Scrape it into the mixing bowl with the cream cheese and mix very well.Add the powdered sugar, vanilla and salt and mix on high until light and fluffy
You will notice as you are browning the butter that it will start to boil, at this stage watch it carefully as it can go from browned to blackened very quickly. Have a bowl or pan close by so that you can pour the butter out of the hot pan quickly into the bowl. Then refrigerate it immediately. (you can also use the freezer to cool it down.) Just don't let it freeze. If it does get too hard, you can microwave it for a few seconds or give it a hot bath over a bowl of hot water.
This is a stand out recipe I recently discovered during an ehow.com film shoot. There were two that really stood out for me this one and the Lavender one. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. Offer them to your bride and groom clients next tasting, or surprise your family and friends with the unique flavors of both the browned butter and the lavender frosting.
Cake flavors that would be great with this icing are: Chocolate and Carrot, but I wouldn't stop there. I would bet this frosting would compliment just about any type of cake recipe. The flavor is a butterscotch/caramel. Kids would also appreciate this on a cupcake.
This recipe makes just barely enough to fill and frost a 6 inch size. Double up on it if you want to have plenty to decorate with or if you are making an 8 inch or larger size.
Adding browned butter to a regular basic butter cream frosting. I would bet that it would take any frosting to a new all time high!
